# Connect add to cart

Shopify stores use Selvette's native Shopify cart integration. A custom site must provide a small JavaScript hook so Selvette can add the tried-on product or AR shade to your cart.

Define `window.__tryonAddToCart` before the shopper uses Add to cart:

```html
<script>
  window.__tryonAddToCart = async ({ productRef, variantRef, qty }) => {
    await myCart.add(productRef, {
      variant: variantRef,
      qty,
    });
    return true;
  };
</script>
```

The hook receives:

* `productRef` — the value from `data-tryon-product`;
* `variantRef` — the selected shade or variant when available; and
* `qty` — currently `1`.

## Report success honestly

* Return `true` after your cart confirms the add.
* Return `false` if the cart rejects it.
* Throw an error if your cart request fails.

Selvette supports asynchronous hooks and waits for the result. Without this hook, a non-Shopify site reports the add as failed instead of showing a false success message.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.selvette.com/custom-sites/add-to-cart.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
